Anne Ranse has been appointed as Archdeacon Emeritus in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn and has relinquished her position as head of the deacons' household in the diocese. She has been asked by Bishop Stuart Robinson to lead an Episcopal task force enquiring into aged care right across the diocese because of the current crisis in aged care here in Canberra. This will be a massive task for Anne and she recognises that she will not be able to carry it along with her current workload.
She is the right person to lead this task group which will present its findings and recommendations to the C&G Synod in due course.
Her place as 'head of the household' will be taken up by Bishop Stephen Pickard who is currently on a two year contract to the parish of Pearce in Canberra. Stephen has a long history with the diaconate. He was contracted to the Uniting Church for many years to develop policy, direction and theological underpinnings of the diaconate in that church. He was director of St Mark's National Theological Centre for nine years.
All deacons might like to pray for Anne and her work for the aged. We would all appreciate your prayers at this difficult time for the deacons in Canberra and Goulburn.
